Basingstoke Town Bowling Club is situated in the Fairfields conservation area one of the older residential parts of the town. We currently have around 50 active bowling, 25 plus social and 15 life members. We are one of a few clubs in the area who has seen an increase in membership this past year (2009).

New members are always welcomed, whatever experience or age. Coaching is always available and club officers will try to ensure your time with us will be enjoyable. All new members, irrespective of bowling experience, will be allocated a 'time-served' club member as their mentor in order to acclimatise the newcomers.

From the beginning of May through to the end of August the Club will be open every Saturday morning from 10.00 to 13.00. Visitors are welcomed to come in and 'try their hand' at bowls. If they have never played before, expert tuition will be on hand. All equipment, except shoes, will be provided. We suggest trainers are worn. So, if you are in the Fairfields area on a Saturday during the summer, come in and 'have a go'. We look forward to meeting you.

Awards Presentation Evening

As in previous years, the awards presentation evening was held at Loddon Vale Indoor Bowling Club. It was encouraging to see some of the newcomers to the Club pick up trophies. Congratulations to all winners & better luck next time to the runners-up.

On behalf of all attendees, many thanks to Keith McEwan for organising a truly ejoyable evening.

EGM 2010

The annual AGM will be held in the Clubhouse again this year on Friday 9th April, starting 7.00 - 7.30. All members should have received the calling notice and a copy of the agenda. Most of the team captains have been apppointed but the two Whitchurch League captains positions are still open. If any of the newer members are interested, please let the Secretary know before the meeting. We look forward to meeting all new applicants whose membership have just been accepted.

Hot News

The 'Town' green has been selected to host the Gwynn Guy trials for 2010. The trials will be held on Tuesday June 15th starting 6.30. All Club members are encouraged to come along to the event to help with the organisation. Both in the Clubhouse & outside. The Club will have a strong representation again this year & support for the BDBA would be most appreciated by the Gwynn Guy team manager.

August 2009

The Association Finals weekend at Alton Town saw the Town trio of McEwan, Bone & Clarke (Morgan sub) retain their triples crown.

The annual Captain v President's game played on the Sunday before the Bank Holiday summed up the re-kindled spirit in the Club. Almost the entire club participated in the game, played in the late August sunshine. It was also nice to see most of the Life Members that had been invited. Some travelling as far away as Wales,

August Bank Holiday Monday saw the Town play host to the touring Steeple Morden Bowling Club. The spirit of the previous weekend did not diminish.

September 2009

September usually signals the end of the outdoor bowling season and generally the month is written off. But not this year! The month saw most of the Club domestic finals played in glorious sunshine. Congratulations to all of the winners & better luck next year to the runners up.

We also saw a few last minute spoon-drives arranged to include the new members that joined in August. Welcome to you all.

October 2009

Like most other outdoor bowling clubs, not a lot happens in October. The skittles team got off to a great start winning 4 out of 5 games. The Club also had the only winning rink in the Whitchurch League indoor friendly at Loddon Vale. Congratulations to Dot, Max, Bernie & Stuart.

November 2009

Unlike last year, the Cusheon Trophy - 2 rinks team got off to a poor start against their old adversary, Oakley. It must be said that on the evening, the opposition had the upper hand throughout. Well done Oakley! It was nice to see 2 novice  indoor bowlers 'blooded' in the competition. Both bowled very well indeed and equipped themselves admirably. Well done Caroline & Steve!

The Club had one of only two winning rinks, albeit triples, in the second Whitchurch League friendly at Chawton Park (Alton). Unfortunately they couldn't repeat last month's heroic's and had to see a strong trio from Old Basing win the 'top rink' prize. Congratulations to Caroline, Steve & Stuart.

December 2009

The last month of the year usually sees the drubbing handed out by Loddon Vale in the annual indoor fixture. This year was no exception. Short of regular indoor bowlers, bar 2, the Town were facing an uphill struggle right fom the start. Despite some late rallies and some notable performances from a few novice bowlers who have never played indoors, the Town did have one winning rink (albeit it a triple). Congratulations to Mark, Steve & Jock Mc.

The disappointment continued in the Cusheon Trophy, going down on both rinks to a strong Camberley side.

However, the month ended with a fine win in the Moreton Cup played at Longmeadow. Both rinks, skipped by Trevor & Dougie Morgan, had emphatic wins over Woolston. The opposition conceding the game with 10 ends to play.

After more wins at skittles, the Xmas break sees the 'Dragon Slayers' sitting on top of the local league, division 2.

January 2010

After the snow had finally disappeared we did manage to get back to playing the game that we all love. The Town team eventually got their Cusheon Trophy back on track by beating Andover on both rinks

Very few games of skittles were played this month but of those played the 'Dragon Slayers' won every game. In one particular game the Team recorded not only their highest score of the season but their highest score, ever! Promotion to the top-tier looks a distict possibility this season.

February 2010

The month began well with another win in the Cusheon Trophy. Both rinks winning against a strong Old Basing team. Despite a late rally from the opposition, the Town won by an overall margin of 20 shots.
